New Blog
OK, I’ve done it. I’ve entirely abandoned Blogger in favour of Movable Type. Blogger was great, but I’d tweaked it about as far as it could go. Movable Type is a lean, mean, tweakable machine. I can categorize posts, I have an RSS feed, I can add plugins (apparently), you can be notified of updates via email. More bells and whistles generally. All comments up to now haven’t actually been lost, but to read them you’ll have to check the Old Blog Archives. There’s a link at the side. I’m sorry, but onwards and upwards.
It’s much more complicated Blogging system. As someone with no formal computer training, I’ve been sweating blood for a couple of days just to get it up and running. I haven’t even started tweaking it really.
But it’s ready for when I actually start the Blog properly, when I hit the States on Monday evening. Everything up to now has been filler.
This looks to be a boozy week. I’m pretty much booked up, although I think I have an afternoon free. And I actually still have some work to finish. I’m just about to get around to it, honest… And I’d better think about packing.
Please let me know if I’ve screwed anything up in the layout – it looks fine in my browser, but…
Cheers.

At 10:30 pm on Monday 29th 2003f September 2003, Nigel wroteOnly three days, huh? I’ve tried to compile a sample emigration blog. Highly condensed of course! Thought it might provide some useful emigration tips. Maybe! It goes like this:
July 2001 Move to London. Spend almost 7 months looking for an interesting film job whilst doing some boring shitty TV ones.
April 2002 Get a proper film job (on Benedict Arnold) but it’s only for a month. Spend the summer trying to find annother by contacting every post production freelancer in the city.
September 2002 Start on Keen Eddie. It rocks. Get a field promotion to editor to cut one episode.
September 29th 2003 Start on Lazarus Child next week. Life is good. Everything’s great.
Forgot to put in a sample small local detail. Um. The Independent launched a tabloid version today so it’s now possible to read it on the tube.
Don’t think I’ll be taking this blog thing up. Look forward to reading good news on your one! Good luck!

At 3:19 pm on Tuesday 30th 2003f September 2003, Anthony decided it was worth pointing outNigel, don’t run yourself down! I’d love to read your bitter musings on a regular basis. Or even your happy, upbeat ones. Go to www.blogspot.com. It’s easy – you don’t need your own website or anything. Is Cold Lazarus a feature version of the Dennis Potter yoke?

At 12:42 pm on Wednesday 01st 2003f October 2003, Nigel professedThe movie is an adaptation of a book by Robert Mawson. (I hadn’t heard of it before.) Here’s a link:
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0368836/
The director, Graham Theakston, used to direct the seminal BBC 80’s sci-fi series “The Tripods”. That’s exciting. I remember it looking a little bit naff at first and it seemed that even though the tripods were massive all we’d see of them was the base of a leg. When the series moved to the city it got quite good though.
Funnily enough he also directed a few episodes of that seminal ITV 80’s cop series “Dempsey and Makepeace” which some cynics have suggested was recently remade as “Keen Eddie”!!!!
OK, bitter musing about London. Well, it’s October and the sunshine here is a mere lighting effect. The temperature doesn’t match so hemlines have dropped again. What’s a single unattached loser to do if he can’t even gawp???
So, two days, eh?

At 1:03 pm on Wednesday 01st 2003f October 2003, Anthony declaredI was a massive fan of “The Tripods”. Massive. They never finshed it, did they? I don’t think they ever shot the third book. And I’m sorry for confusing “Lazarus Child” with “Cold Lazarus”. And I know what you mean about the hemlines (sigh).
