A , posted by Anthony in the late afternoon.

This may be an insane week. Zaini, my college buddy and former roommate of two and a half years is coming over to stay with me until next Monday. New York is his first stop on an around the world travelling extravaganza. He’s arriving in a couple of hours, and I’ve just inflated his bed, so there ain’t too much floor space here anymore. Luckily we lived together long enough that I don’t feel like I have to tidy – he has no illusions about me. Ruairi may also be coming here this weekend on a job, in which case Saturday night would be fun – almost like being back in college. Or at least Dublin.
But that’s not what would make it insane. The short the sound for which I’ve been dragging out of myself like blood for the past month or so is finally mixing – tomorrow and Friday. Those will be very full days, but I’ll be glad to finally see it completed.
But that’s not particularly insane either. On top of that, I’m going to try and meet with the director of this feature sometime this week, and see what the story is. Unless he’s Googled me and was turned off when he saw the poll. This is very possible.

But that’s not insane either. The reason it may be insane is that I may be moving. Why? Why? You ask. Well, I got a tip about a cheaper, bigger room in a house in Queens. I would like to live in a house, and I would also like to live with girls again.
I have no quarrels with my current roommates – they’re great guys. But JV works nights, which means I have to be quiet during the day. This is obviously not his fault, but is a bit of a strain. I think he would like someone who was working away from the apartment during the day as well. He was certainly very calm when I broke it to him that I might be leaving.

It’s insane because I have signed a six month lease which won’t be up until the end of June, and unless we can find someone to take over my room within the next week I’ll have to pay rent on both places. Luckily, NYC is the right place to try and rent somewhere quickly, but it’s definitely stressful.
I haven’t even seen the place I might be moving to, and I won’t until Wednesday. Aaargh!

But before you say anything – I definitely want to move. I wasn’t looking, but now that the possibility has been raised I definitely want to go ahead with it. The area I’m in is a bit desolate, a bit isolated. My room is small. I’m right by the bathroom and there’s a connecting door so that any time somebody takes a shower (or anything – I won’t elaborate) it wakes me up. The carpet is cheap and gives me electric shocks. The L line stops running every second or third weekend, making it a real pain to get home. The TV is so old that it doesn’t have anywhere to attach my DVD player. And so on and so forth.
This new place is apparently in quite a nice area of Queens. It’s on the 7 train, which is regular and handy for Manhattan. And it’s quite heavily Irish, so I might even to be able to get decent rashers in the shops. They understand that I might be leaving at the end of June, so I wouldn’t have to sign a lease, and this doesn’t seem to be a problem. I hope it works out. Either way I’ll know soon.

My weekend was unusually busy. I went out Friday with Liza and some British buddies of hers that were visiting. We had a good time bar-hopping around the Village and the Lower East Side.
On Saturday evening, I left the house with $12 in my pocket. I had a Mexican meal, went to a club with a cover charge, drank and danced, and then took a cab to a bar where I continued to drink until 5am. When I got home (yes, I fell asleep on the train again) I still had $9 in my pocket.

I am the king of the sponge.

When this car is sold and I have some money I will have to buy a lot of people a lot of beer for a long time.

Buy my car! It seems that they’re going to start selling them over here next year, according to this New York Times article (free registration required).

That I would like to see.

Oh, and I’m sorry I was a little late with today’s After the Party. I was drunk! What do you want from me?

Can you do that same trick with loaves and fishes? Anthony, that is impressive! Did you manage to smoke 20 fags (cigarettes, to all you non Irish or non British readers) into the bargain?

It seems this week is my last full one on the job after all. I may be over to New York sometime myself. And if you have sultry female flatmates how could I refuse?

Oh, and I changed my mind about your poll. You talked me into changing my vote. Does that sway you any?

I sense a change of fortunes is progress following from your “strange zen like calm” that you alluded to in an earlier entry.

this is to be encouraged, do what seems right grasshopper, your path is divided but full of potential.
