Kill Bill Vol.2

And now we get the story. But it’s OK, we still get the fun too.

Volume 2 is much less exhilarating – we know what to expect now, so it’s all less striking. Kooky homages, cool fights, strangely meaningful swords, persistent histories… It’s all good. There’s not much I can say – you pretty much know what to expect, and there’s no disappointment.

It’s strangely purposeless. That is to say, it’s purpose doesn’t extend beyond the credits. It’s as if Tarantino isn’t interested in doing anything beyond entertaining, and he’s content to do it by recycling things that have entertained him in the past. He a talented bugger, so that’s almost enough.

He’s not doing anything but flexing his muscles. They are extremely impressive muscles, but I’d like to actually see him lifting something. I have a feeling that I’ll enjoy this movie more on repeated viewings, but it seems kind of long for now. It’s quite an achievement to have wrested such originality from such imitation, but…

I want more!

Saw it yesterday. Disappointing. The ingredients are goood but the manner in which it’s put together? Flabby. I just kept on wondering why they couldn’t have trimmed it down a bit more. Some of the pacing was so poor even French audiences would be bored.
