« « Glory| Miracles of Technology » »Final Pre-Flight Clearing Entry
In a few hours I’ll be airborne, and tomorrow morning I’ll be bleary eyed and jet lagged in Dublin. There are just a few things I’d like to make a note of.
- The In The Dark Party
This annual get together for post production folk will be taking place in the 51 on Haddington Road this Saturday (the 18th) at 9pm. I’m not involved in organising it this year (Dermot Diskin and Declan McGrath bear full responsibility) but I’ll certainly be in attendance. Come one come all.
- Contacting Me
I have a feeling my Irish sim card is no longer working. I’ve been carrying it around in my walllet for a year and I don’t think it’s survived. On top of that, I can’t find my Irish phone charger, so I may suddenly lose access to everybody’s phone numbers. Additionally, I’m going to break with tradition and not bring my laptop home with me. The transition to Google Mail has been smooth, so I can do without the extra weight and security checks.
Essentially, if you want to get in touch with me, you’ll have to email me or call my parents number, which if you don’t have you can find by emailing me.
- The Blog
My parents have a computer and high speed internet, so I will probably update the blog while I’m there, although you won’t see me adding random, meaningless gewgaws to the site quite so much (does everybody have their Gravatar?)
- Presents
I quite understand if nobody wants to get me anything, because frankly I’m not getting anybody anything, but if you do feel a sudden unaccountable swelling of generosity, here are some suggestions:
- Money
I won’t feel it’s cold or heartless, I swear. I may actually eat it in front of you.
I really want it, and you can’t get it in America.
- Socks
Yes, I’m serious. I just packed and I don’t know where they’ve all gone. Slippers, too. I need slippers.
- Not Games
That’s right, not games. It’s not that I don’t want games, it’s just that any games you buy in Europe won’t work in the states, and that would just frustrate me horribly. The same goes for DVDs.
Thank you.
- I Am Happy To Be Coming Home
I have been away long enough to actually be looking forward to seeing everybody, and I’m even beginning to detect a slight fondness for the idea of Dublin itself. I’m pretty sure this won’t survive the inevitable traffic jam on the journey from the airport, but still. Amazingly, I don’t even really mind that I’ll be missing the best double bill conceivable by mankind. At least I’ll get to see Dead Meat.
- Vanessa’s Blog
For the curious, Vanessa’s account of her trip to Ireland is up.
I think that’s all. I’ll be returning to my uncertain future on the 30th, and I hope to spend much of the next two weeks in a drunken stupor with old friends and family.
In the manner of Krusty the Clown, I wish you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a Crazy Kwanzaa, a Tip Top Tet and a Solemn and Dignified Ramadan!

I find it hard to believe but it seems that I must give you some techie tips. Oh well, there’s a first time for everything and all that.
Why did you carry a SIM card in your wallet? Although it’s a crucial piece of technology in getting a mobile to perform it’s function it has no alchemical qualities and cannot make a wallet perform as a phone.
I thought you had loads of old phones lying about. I stay in touch with the world in Ireland by using a pay as you go SIM in an old mobile. Easy! Now why can’t you do that?

I was toying with the sim card thing, but since I don’t have a charger… I’ll try and sort something out today. I carried the sim card in my wallet because I didn’t want to lose it. And I thought maybe it would make the wallet work as a mobile.
Anyway… GET A GRAVATAR!
Was that Ok, Babs?
